  1. Yorleni Vasquez Lopez: As we all know, internet offers an incredible varied of information, an unlimited world to access with a click. But it also includes lots of dangers within the web sites; and if we don’t protect ourselves we can be victims of cyberbullying, thefts, and exposure to sexual predators, gambling, internet addiction, hackers, virus, spywares, malwares, phishing, spam, internet frauds, and many other criminal activities. Due to these facts, we as teachers should teach and prevent our students about these dangers; and also, we should always be pendant on what our students are doing, and in the future, being aware of what our children will do when they have access to internet. In the future, when I get to teach a group of students, I will compromise myself to instruct them about the benefits and dangers of the net, by creating internet safety posters, doing presentations or giving speeches about how to safely and intelligently surf the net and becoming a smart member of the different social networks that are available for everyone. To expand upon my ideas, I recommend the following link: http://www.fbi.gov/fun-games/kids/kids-safety, which exposes some tips to protect children and teens from the internet dangers; as is stated on the web site, we should warn our kids, students, friends and neighbors to never meet or allow visits from someone from the internet without their parents’ permission. There are many ways in which we can teach this important information, by creating advertisements, creative posters or the like, we get the attention of our students and hopefully, they get to practice what we urge them.

  2. Nowadays with the internet people can access almost any kind of information that they want by just searching the interested topic. This can be very useful from time to time, but it can also be dangerous. The web can be deceitful and people should be careful with the way they use it. We as teachers should prevent and teach our students about these dangers. Using Internet Safety Posters is an excellent way to teach our students how to protect themselves when using the internet. The following video shows different posters, and with a song warns and explains the use of these posters.

  3. When using CALL as part of our English class, it is very important to be aware that there are some dangers that our students can find when surfing on the net, especially in social web sites in which lots of people everyday have access to. We as teachers are in charge of remind our students of this threats and keep them safe. A creative way of informing our students about safety ways of surfing on the internet is that they by their own create a internet safety poster so that they can think about ways to deter those dangers. Teachers can be part of the process by guiding students and highlighting tips that they may forget. The following website is simply amazing, you can find a lot of information about dangers you can find on internet. It is divided into different ages from kids of 5 years old to teenagers. They talk about different topics such as relationships, sex, and their relation with internet for teenagers and other topics for kids. Also they help teachers and parents and give them some tips to keep children and teenagers safe: http://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/

  4. Currently, many people have access to internet through computers, smartphones or tablets, among them kids and teenagers. Everybody would agree that despite the fact that internet is a great and possibly main source of information, not all of its content is appropriate for kids and teenagers; therefore, it is really important that parents and teachers come up with ways in which we can prevent them from the dangers that are on the web. One different way is by using posters that we can post on the schools’ walls or classrooms. We don’t have to pay a lot of many for one poster, we can design it ourselves. The following link offers nice ideas to include in your internet safety poster for children: http://www.safekids.com/kids-rules-for-online-safety/

  5. Tablets, computers, and smart phones have became the fastest, and most effective way to keep in touch with one another, no matter where you are at. Technology not only allows people to stay connected, but to acces all kind of information in serious as well as in not reliable websites. Therefore, it is essescial that we as educators help our students be aware of the danger surfing on the web represents. Despite of the risks taken when going online, one should know how to accesss information without exposing personal integrity. Having a internet safety poster not only inside the classroom, but in the institution´s information boards, for instance, with a clear, strong message about being safety online may be more effective than giving a 40 min lecture to teenagers. I will make sure I have a poster outside my classroom, so students can comment on it in a free way in the halls with the others without having to worry about the answers they could give me in a class. I would also have a short, let´s say 20 min, case study discussion in which I will give my students cases of people who have been victims of cyber bullying as well as other experiences people have faced by giving out information that should not have.
The following video I find it very nice and concise. It is from the Timon & Pumbaa cartoon. It is about how to be smart and safe online. It is very accurate and grounded in today´s reality. I find it really easy for students to follow. Since they are well known characters it will call students attention.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-njh8mFvVk

  6. Nowadays, most of the people (including children, teenagers and adults) use the Internet every day in their daily routines. We use it for professional, educational and entertainment purposes. As adults, we have a clear idea of what websites are appropriate for us and the reasons of it. However, our students might not be aware of the risks when surfing the net. That is why, this kind of activities (Internet Safety Poster) is fundamental when to introduce our students in a CALL environment.
Using interesting posters that call our students’ attention is a good strategy to inform them about the risks of using the internet and providing them with useful information to use it in the most adequate way.

  7. As teachers it is our responsibility to be aware of the dangers of the use of technology specially internet tools, because every single activity in which we use them needs to have an educational purpose. However, not all the content presented is safe or appropriate for our students. According to this rule, to provide information to the students is vital to guide them in the correct use of internet, as well as, to take care of their personal information and their own security. Internet safety posters are an effective technique that we can implement in the educational institution with the intention to prevent possible dangers, but at the same time to involved the students in the stratgies that contribute to protect themselves as a responsable user of the world wide web.

  8. Taking into account that people all over the world are surrounded by new technologies which not only convey positive knowledge but also unsafe data; we as teachers should be pretty conscious that nowadays ours students are being bombarded with information coming out from a diversity of means, and one of them is the Internet. As a result of this, we need to undertake that our students are susceptible to access to risky websites. One way to inform them about the dangers of the internet is through an Internet Safety Poster; whose main purpose is to prevent students from sharing detailed and personal information on the net. Additionally, it is known that students pay close attention to things who are eye-catching; thus, I will use nice-looking posters in the classroom in order to present important information and facts. Consequently, students will find this way of learning new topics very attractive. This links shows eight useful tools teachers can use in order to create appealing posters: http://www.educatorstechnology.com/2013/02/the-best-10-tools-to-create-posters-for.html

  9. Since the use of technology in our classes is been increasing as well as the use of social networks we as facilitators must make sure about what are students uploading and publishing in the web. One way to advise them about the problems that carry the bad use of information in the web is by using posters, attractive ones. From my perspective I strongly believe that if teachers and students make up the poster together and share information, beliefs, thoughts about the topic it would be more significant for them and they will try to share that info with their peers and so on. Here there are some examples on what teachers and students can create for internet safety posters https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2l14YB3yWok

  10. Technology has become part of the society; everybody is surrounded and exposed to technology. As a result, social networks have become a fashion among people. The negative aspect is that some individuals take advantage of this factor and get the personal information of the people who use them in order to commit fraud. As a result, it is necessary that teachers educate students in the use of social networks by giving them advices or tips when using them. Internet security posters can be implemented in classrooms as a way to catch students’ attention and prevent them of being victims of hackers and other people. The following video gives some important tips that can be taken into account when using social networks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUyla_nMJis

  11. Nowadays, accessing to the internet from any device seems as easy as waking up in the morning, or even easier (especially Mondays). And not only that, we spend more time surfing the net than actually doing something out of it, we even become really dependent of the internet each day. We cannot longer spend a couple of minutes not knowing something and we already feel the urgency of looking it up on the web; and if we do something –even as trivial- as watching a TV show or reading a book, there is the need of acceptation through others on the internet. Therefore, we ended up posting everything we do on websites such as Facebook or Instagram. Being said that, I would like to state how influential the internet is nowadays in everything we do and how carefully we must be when sharing information on it, because there is the chance (a big one) that it could turn bad on us and follow us for a really good time (or should I say bad time?).
Therefore, as future teachers (or current professors depending on who is reading), we need to teach our students how to use internet and the precautions they must take every single time they pretend to surf the net. And here is how necessary are the information posters. The reason (at least many of the times) of why things happen regarding the internet, is because the victim usually DOESN’T know that it can happen. So, by informing our students, we are helping them to prevent a big mistake they may regret the rest of their lives.

  12. Definitely, technology is a great tool for teachers to complement and, somehow, facilitate their teaching process. It is characterized by supporting the students’ learning development too; however, although there are innumerable advantages to use it, it might also bring a great quantity of disadvantages which cause problems not only in classroom, but in students’ daily life. For this reason, it is indispensable to be aware not only of its benefits, but also of the difficulties we may face when using it. The Internet Safety Poster is a good way to prevent and involve our students in this situation. Through it, we can let them know of the risks that using technology implicates and the care they all must have. I consider that our main purpose when creating an internet safety should not be to scare our students because technology is also providing us with multiple benefits; what we have to do is to look for the best ways to have our students thinking critically about the consequences of applying these tools inappropriate.
Use of Internet Safety Poster in classrooms: I think each classroom must have an internet safety poster pasted on its walls whether teachers have the opportunity to use technology or not because nowadays it is a fact that students, no matter their age, are exposed to the use of technology in every single place they visit. Each educational institution should have some in order to help students realize about the dangers they can find in the internet.

  13. Technology is part of almost everybody’s daily lives. Each environment in which people are involved there is technology and education is not an exception. As teachers we have to be able to include technology in our lessons in order to satisfy students’ needs and/or demands to be proficient in a world where everything is moving around and by technology. We have to promote a “technological culture” with the aim students can apply technology no just for the English course, but also for daily life. We have to provide learners with significant tools and strategies to use technology and the vast amount of materials it offers to learn and work with. However, as teachers and learners can take advantage of this important tool, we are exposed to a series of risks that can put in danger our security, and mostly important students’ security, and even their integrity. For these reasons, facilitators have to look for the ways to teach how to make a responsible use of technology and the tools it offers because of aspects such as accessibility to information students have when they click on something that catches their attention, people they interact with, among others that could represent a risk if teachers lose control on the class and on what students are doing when using technology. Therefore, it is important let students know the purposes of using technology in class, the risks they are exposed to, and how to manage the different situations students could face when using technological materials. Finally, tools as posters are an important strategy to ensure students are going to remember the aspects mentioned before in order to make a correct use of technology.

  14. Nowadays, internet has become part of our everyday because of the many advantages it represents; however, we have to be aware of all the risks that we are exposed while using internet. In my opinion as a future teacher, I believe that if we use internet in a good way it can make our classes more interactive, rich in content and engaging for our students. Nevertheless, we should try to create a critical consciousness in our students toward the risks that the internet represents, one activity that we can implement in our classroom is a round table because it allows students to discuss and understand better the topic and after the activity is finished ask students to create a collage or a poster about what is been discussed. I found this nice web page which has presentations, case stories and videos about internet safety http://www.criminaljustice.ny.gov/missing/i_safety/videos_presentations.htm

  15. The potential expansion of new technologies has changed the way in which live, learn and behave. Most of us are connected through laptops, smartphones, tablets and so on, all of them with access to internet. Nowadays, teachers have to face many challenges in order to choose the correct form to use technological tools and innovative techniques to teach. Regarding the use of internet, it could be risky or beneficial. What educators need to do is to provide students with appropriate information about the dangers of internet and give the students the tips for the correct use of it, so in this way students are able to learn about the importance of internet safety. Internet could be an excellent tool to apply CALL, so students learn and practice by video calls in which they can interact with others, also they able to use blogs, online practices, interactive games, watch videos and many others innovative tools. However, many students can be victims of malicious users and obscene or offensive content. For this reason, it is important to keep our students aware of the correct use of internet and the technological tools that are involved in it. Teachers can use posters to show tips or the dangers in order to call students attention and help them to be aware of consequences and dangers of internet, as well as guide them to use the internet and its tools correctly and safety.

  16. We as English teachers must be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of the internet and use it to benefit our students. Now, how can we do this? We can use technology to enhance the learning environment and increase student engagement. Even though internet is a great tool to learn and practice, teachers have to be careful and use it in the right way. Teachers have to guide students when using internet as part of the class and students have to know the risks they take when using internet inappropriately. Since technology is growing faster, I think the idea of using safety posters in class is just great. Moreover, we can use these posters to review topics and make our students think in a critical way. Having our students make a poster not only helps our students review but also makes them be more creative. The following link has information about the value of poster in the classroom and how we can use them. http://education.jhu.edu/PD/newhorizons/strategies/topics/literacy/articles/the-value-of-posters/

  17. Teenagers as well as kids are exposed to many kinds of dangers when surfing the net. One of the daily risks they frequently face is to be contacted by strangers who do not want other thing than hurting them. This is one of the main reasons why teachers who expect to put into practice CALL in their classes have to figure out the best ways for their students really understand all the dangers of the Internet. In my very specific case, most of my students have a Facebook only because a friend of them open them an e-mail account, which they never use. Then, in this case it is fundamental to teach students about the Internet´s risks for them to be safe and secured. I would take my poster to class, paste it in front of the classroom, ask students to tell me what they understand from the poster, to ask students to draw their own poster (by using a bunch of materials we -teacher and students- would take to class), and finally present it to their classmates.
This link will drive you to a video that hopefully would give you new ideas about what advices should we give our students for them to be careful when surfing the Net. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrln8nyVBLU
