Mini Project #1: Electronic Resume

The first short project consists of the creation of an electronic resume using Microsoft PowerPoint Slides. As such, read the photocopies on Learning with Multimedia Tools Pp. 301-334 (Forcier), and then familiarize yourself with PPP using the YouTube videos below as tutorials to help you with your resume construction. The main focus is using hypertext links in its creation--- see Chapter 10 Learning with Multimedia Tools starting on page 313. You should also heed the Guidelines for Effective PowerPoint Presentations on page 315 – 316 when creating your resume.

Your resume should have the following aspects:

• Followed the PPP guidelines on page 315-316 of Chapter 10 Learning with Multimedia Tools (2%)

• Main Heading screen should have 8 to 10 hyperlinks to resume information about yourself (1%)

• Used at least ONE of the following items within the resume: inserted sounds, used a recorded narration, and/or added a video which illustrates your teaching qualities (1%)

• Information is true and up-to-date as well as being creative and original (1%)

This first project is due on August 29th and should be presented to the class on said date. If you have any questions, due a Google Hangout with me or send me a message on Facebook...I will get back to you as soon as possible...usually within 12 hours.

  1. PowerPoint is undoubtedly a great tool that millions of people use around the world. Many of them use it to create presentations. However, we as teachers can give many more uses to this tool. Also we as professionals can create our resume using PowerPoint.
When teaching, we can not only introduce a topic but also give it an interactive use. It has many multimedia tools (images, sounds, animations, transitions) that we can use to create an original class. Students can get tired of being taught using a simple PowerPoint; however, we can also create games and interactive practices.

  2. (1) Relate the material with your own educational work/life.
In both my future work as a teacher and my life PPP has made easier the job of illustrating my ideas more clearly to an audience. For instance; I remember I have been using this software since I was in high school were my teachers used to ask me to talk about a particular topic in front of my classmates. I did not know all I could do at that time however power point turn out to be really user friendly and allowed me to use my creativity. Then, at the university my professors used it and they taught me how relevant it could be for my future job as a teacher.
    (2) Give an example on how you might use either CALL and/or PPP in your work as a teacher (or in the future).
Recently I was doing a mini practicum at Liceo Julio Acosta, and I decided to use power point presentations so my students could learn vocabulary.
Personally, the best part of using the power point with my students was that it allowed me to use images to illustrate what they otherwise would have confused or not even imagine. Therefore I explored other ways to use the presentation like: adding music, voice, or videos to it so students could enjoy the learning process.
    (3) Find a link on the web which expounds upon your thoughts on the topic and gives other ways in which the item(s) may be used in teaching. Briefly explain and add the link.
The following link is basically sharing a lot of different ways on how to use a PPP in a innovative and different way not only for business purposes but also to captivate an audience: http://www.thinkoutsidetheslide.com/help-for-presenters/webinar-recordings-videos/ Besides I recommend to click the option free resources there are free tutorials so, it is really helpful.

  3. Power point presentations facilitates a lot the way we can teach our students and also the way the can learn. Power point is a very helpful tool when we want to explain things easily, in a very graphic way. But sometimes we have to be careful in the way we use this tool because we can also confuse our students. We should not use power point presentations as the most important part of our class, but we can use them as a complement and also reinforce the topic with other technological tools and activites. The information in the following slideshare can help you to create your own effective powerpoint presentation for educational purposes: http://es.slideshare.net/geoffcain/powerpoint-as-an-interactive-teaching-tool

  4. Power Point Presentations is a tool that i think almost every student nowadays knows of, and has used it at least one time. With the help of this software we can teach a lesson in a completely different way than just using a book or the board, since it allows use to use images, videos, recordings, among others. In my future work as a teacher I am pretty sure that I will use PPP in my classes due to all the facilities that it gives us. Also, with the latest version of the software we can do a lot more than just project images or videos; we can really make our class very interactive, helping the students to learn the language a little more easy. The following video gives and explains a way in which we as teachers can use PPP to create interactive quizzes for our students. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UssuI0mY6RI

  6. Power point is a great tool that teachers can use in their classrooms. With it we teachers can create presentations which enhance the process of learning. When using power point presentations teachers are able to use different kinds of media such as images, videos, audios, animations, and interactive games. It is very useful and it helps students comprehension of the topics studied. However, teachers must be conscious of the correct use of this tool. They need to use it in an interactive way to have an effective learning because if it is used as a teacher or they just read the information without establishing a good connection with the students, it would be totally ineffective. Teachers must establish rapport with the students and use power point presentation to reinforce, help and make more interesting the learning of English, not only though words but with visuals. Moreover, it is a wonderful tool not only for presentations but also to present our resumes. As teachers, we can use this tool to present the contents adding visual aids. Also, we can use and create games like Jeopardy. Besides, we can ask students to make presentations with this tool, so they can interact with media, make their presentations using their creativity and technology and create an innovative learning process. In this way, using this tool correctly, teachers can engage students in the acquisition or learning of English and make the class more interesting.

  7. For me PowerPoint presentations are just a great tool to teach English. Because you can prepare them at home and you do not waste time writing everything on the board and having my students writing on their note books. Besides, PPTs can be very interactive and appealing for students. The PPT might have videos, grammar structures, links, practices, recordings, images and more things that help students understand what is been taught. We can also use PPTs for presenting a resume as we did in class as well as for professional works. I use PPT to teach grammar and vocabulary in class because students get less bored. Moreover, I can use images to teach vocabulary so that students do not have to translate everything, they just have to associate.

  9. It has been said that technology makes learning a more meaningful experience to students, allowing them to participate more interactively in the classroom. Therefore, by using motivational methods such as PowerPoint presentations students would fell more engaged during their lessons. PowerPoint displays a huge amount of options that might change completely a simple presentation into an involved one. Many teachers are using in their classes such presentations because they have discovered that students do not get bored easily, they find PowerPoint presentations an entertaining way to learn. When I did my teaching practicum I presented some topics by using images, sounds and videos incorporated within PowerPoint presentations and my students were enjoying the class, their participation increased more than when I did not use it. As a result, technological tools in general have brought positive results during the teaching/learning process. Hence, teachers should not be afraid of integrating them into class. The following link describes how to use PowerPoint in an effective way; besides, it also aids teachers to expand their knowledge about how to use this tool in the classroom. http://www.facultyfocus.com/articles/instructional-design/using-powerpoint-effectively-in-your-courses/
