Finding materials that suit the necessities of our students is sometimes a difficult task, we spend a lot of time surfing the net to find sometimes nothing. That’s probably the main reason why we should start using Goanimate, by using it, we ensure ourselves that the material we are using was created with a specific purpose and that it will fit our students’ proficiency level. Another way to use it is by forming a subgroup and then assigning each group a subtopic to create a video that will be used in class, in that way we will have our students cooperating with the materials they use. The following link will take you to an article that explains why we should create our own materials as well as the guidelines to follow when doing so.

Having access to technological tools as GoAnimate is a great advantage for educators to complement their classes. It is a fact that finding a good and appropriate video for our students is sometimes a hard task; for this reason, GoAnimate is being used by more and more teachers nowadays. The benefits to start exploring and using it are varied. The most important one is that we have the possibility to create the video by ourselves which means that we can adapt it to the population we are teaching and include just the topic, grammar and vocabulary we need; for example, we can decide if the vocabulary we should include must be a basic one or a more technical one. Furthermore, GoAnimate is a synonym of innovation and creativity for both, teachers and students, who may play with the options it provides in order to generate a good instrument to support and improve the teaching-learning process.
ReplyDeleteUse of GoAnimate in classes: I would use this kind of videos as warm up activities, individually and in groups, to introduce a specific topic, and/or realize how much knowledge students already have about it. I would also combine it to some other activities at the same time with the purpose of teaching an interactive class.
Link: In the following link, you can read first some advantages and disadvantages of using GoAnimate for students and then, the benefits and drawbacks it has for teachers. http://www.anglistikdidaktikwiki.uni-jena.de/index.php?title=Benefits_and_Drawbacks_to_Using_Go!Animate
There are times in which I have been trying to find a good video that not only that fits the topic I´m covering, but also my students´ language performance. When I have tried to do this, the answers have not always been positive. Even though YouTube has millions of videos not all of them are good quality. Therefore, Go animate came up as a good option for teachers in order for them to create their own videos adapted to their specific needs; however, this website has lately changed its settings and is not allowing users to work on it as it did before, which is a shame. Creating videos is time consuming, but once they are ready one can make use of them in the future. The following video is an example of how a go animate video was used to evidence a context based topic which may be appealing for students and can also serve for further discussion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEcu0bULZEw

ReplyDeleteForum3: Yorleni Vásquez López: As technology progresses, education has to change and improve with it to make students being updated and prepared to success in nowadays society. For this reason, teachers have the responsibility to actualize themselves and to implement technology when teaching, so step by step, teachers and our students can become aware of all its advantages. GoAnimate is a very interesting and useful tool to use when teaching almost any topic. GoAnimate is easy and quick to use for creating videos that adequate to the topic and population we are teaching; for instance, if we do not find a video from YouTube that suits our needs; we can invest our time creating one for us. Unfortunately, it has gained a huge popularity and now their owners are making it a lucrative business. They are charging lots of money for most videos, depending on its length. Fortunately, it is still free to sign-in and create short videos, and we can take advantage of it to create many short videos with basic features that suit our needs and to carry the message to our students. In the future when teaching, as we did for the video project, I will use GoAnimate to create interactive and creative videos to introduce a specific subject, to create a practice or to summarize the main aspects of certain topics. Also, I can use it to assign the creation of a video as homework, so in groups, students will create one and present it to the rest of the class. Using GoAnimate to create videos to teach would make our classes more attractive and engaging for students, especially for visual learners. By clicking on the following links http://www.opencolleges.edu.au/informed/features/50-ways-to-use-animation-as-a-teaching-tool/ & http://www.explaininja.com/enhance-learning-using-animated-educational-videos/ you would find more descriptions about the uncountable benefits and advantages from using this tool for educational purposes.
ReplyDeleteAnimated videos are a great tool when teaching English. Technology is the best friend of teachers. With animated videos you can reinforce your classes, for instance, if you are teaching family members and simple present tense, once yoy have finish teaching the topic you can use animated videos to review the topic. Also, you can ask your students to create their own animated video or ask them to do it as homework. In this way, students review the topic and you can be aware of the student´s progress about the topic and if they need further explanations about the topic. Animated video
ReplyDeleteEven though creating animated videos is not an easy task, it is an innovative way to teach; therefore, if we have the opportunity and the knowledge of how to use it we can include this material in our classes. We can create funny videos related to the topic that we are studying in order to increase our students’ motivation. Also we should contemplate and include topics that are interesting for them. We also have to contextualize the video. It can also be a good strategy to use listening activities in our classes.
However, we have to be very careful with the kind of information and content that we include. We have to be sure that the grammar and the structures used are appropriate for the level of our students. Also we have to evaluate the amount of time that we spend doing the video because in some cases it is better to use another type of activity that we consider is more significant and does not demand too much time.

This link shows us how to use animated videos for education. It says that it increase our students’ motivation and helps us to develop a variety of topics in creative ways. If we have the resources and the knowledge to create these videos, it can contribute a lot in the process of teaching and learning.

ReplyDelete.I find this tool really interesting and useful, not only to create the videos and show them to our students, I would actually prefer to use it in the following way: the teacher asks students to read a story, the students in pairs work in a computer and retell the story by creating a go animate video and finally the groups present their creative projects to the rest of the class. In this way, they are not just having a passive role by watching the video but creating their own knowledge. This is a way in wich we can use go animate in schools.

These animation tools are excellent to help the teacher presenting an audiovisual aid to their students. The best part is that the teacher won't have to invest too much time on Internet looking for a specific video; instead, teachers can produce their own video with the specific information they need to include. This saves effort and time since students will be watching what they really need. By means of implementing this tool the lesson turns more appealing to students and it will be more meaningful for them. Nontheless, I'd say teacher should not over use this resource because its possitive effect on the pupils will wear out.
ReplyDeleteSpecifically, I have to point out goanimate is very easy to use, but for those who would like to go further as film makers they could explore what CRAZY TALK ANIMATOR has in store for them. Check it out at http://www.reallusion.com/crazytalk/animator/ This program has great features and it will take the possibilities in animation to another level.
The use of technological tools represents an important complement for teachers to support their lessons. Goanimate is one of those technological tools that can be used by teachers to make their lessons more attractive and interactive for learners, because through the use of this technological implement, students’ needs about know and how to use technology for different purposes is supplied. Moreover, in the specific case of Goanimate, this tool is very useful for English teachers because they have the chance to create their own videos taking into account aspects such as students’ level, learners’ interests, what they need or have to learn, among other students’ characteristics. Likewise, creating videos has the advantage of being creative and avoiding waste of time looking for videos that meet our expectations as educators due to the vast amount of videos in the web that make the search labor difficult and tedious provoking teachers get bored of looking for the “perfect video.” Finally, teachers can involve students to use tools like this in order they create their own materials to learn or for different assignments in class or at home.
ReplyDeleteThis is another option to create your own videos http://www.powtoon.com/
Even though I didn’t post my forum comment the last Friday, I’m going to do it now. GoAnimate is a great tool that teachers can use to develop their classes in a fun and interesting way. Nowadays students don’t like to just read a textbook and do some exercises, so they would pretty soon be bored and lose their focus, but if you put a video, they would be interested in seeing what the video is about and they would pay attention to it. This is a good reason to use this App in order to create videos for our classes. The following video link shows us a basic tutorial on how to use GoAnimate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUFRd0vXq1w
