Google Hangout: This will be a group discussion using Google Hangout in which the topic of becoming “Connected Educators and Learners” is examined in detail in which students must previously investigate the topic in order to be able to contribute to the discussion. This connection will take place on September 20th at 2:00 pm. 2% for connecting on Google Hangout, and 3% on one’s contribution to the discussion while on Google Hangout. The 3% is broken-down as such: 3% for those who participated throughout and gave a unique insight into “Connected Educators and Learners” which is founded on one’s prior research into the topic. 2% for those who participated several times which shows that the student had researched the topic before the Hangout. 1% for those who participated little in the discussion of the topic and infrequently contributed to the conversation due to little to no research on what it means to be a connected educator and learner. The following video gives you an overview on how to use Google Hangeout.

  1. Google Hangout is a good option for teachers who want to come up with creative and innovative techniques for engaging students. Many times students complain about how boring a class could be, then, a good strategy to use is to have a virtual class. The teacher can work it out with any topic being covered; however, it will work better with a topic related to technology, so the students feel more identified with the topic and the way they are covering it. For example, the teacher can assign each student a technological device or electrical appliance (like T.V., cell phones, computers, among others) and ask them to do a little research on the evolution of it. This may serve as a little introduction to the unit on technology. Also, this tool might be useful when the professor gets sick and cannot go to school, he/she can arrange a virtual meeting, at least only to review important things. And if the professor has time wants to extra help students, he/ she can assign once in a while a time to each student to meet by Google Hangout and provide personal attention, here, the student can ask questions regarding topics already covered. In summary, Google Hangout is a tool that can benefit our students; the teacher has only to be creative, but we have always to keep in mind that we have to use these tools with extreme caution. Below you will find a link to an article that covers some advantages and disadvantages of virtual classes.

  2. Google hangout is another innovative tool that the internet offers. I had never heard about it before I used it in this course, but from now on, I am sure I am going to apply it in my classes more than once. I completely agree with the idea that technology must never replace teachers; however, I consider that good educators are the ones who are updated and take advantage of the tools that this globalized area offers. I will definitely use the Google hangouts because it represents a way to avoid the monotony in class, and it can become a motivating factor for students to interact and learn.
Use of Google Hangout in classes: Currently, most learners have a computer and access to internet in their educational institutions or even at home. Hence, I would use the Google hangout to make them work from their houses or other places on specific assignments. I will probably ask my students to research about a specific topic we need to study in the next class and share their main ideas with the rest of their classmates. If I use this technological tool, I will prepare a practice for my students to complete when they go back to the classroom in order to check understanding of what they were doing through Google hangouts.

  3. Having a Gmail account for me is amazing in every sense. The different apps it allows you to make use of within the same account are many. Hangouts is one of the most useful for students and teachers. I make use of it most of the times because it saves me a lot of time. It is really useful that you do not have to spend time treveling to where one needs to meet with somebody else to work on a given task, nowadays, it is a matter of agreeing on a time to get online and have a virtual meetting. In the classroom context, google hangouts is really engaging since it allows real time teaching and learning interaction. I will say that what I really love about it is the possibility of having a vide conference with a native speaker, so that my students can have the chance to talk with any person from an English speaking context any time. Students can also have online speking practice with other students. If the teacher or the student get sick they can have a make up class without having to worry about coming to school to do it. Among the new technologies, I am sure that this invention has been one of the most accurate. The following video talks about the ten tops reasons for using videos to the classroom in order to create disccussions, bring experts to the class, and share meaningful knowledge with the rest of the world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0r1SRJCViUY

  4. Forum3: Yorleni Vásquez López: Nowadays technological advances are growing incredibly fast to supply all the needs and requirements society demands. Education has been influenced by technology, implementing several tools to enhance the teaching and learning process. Google+ is one of the most famous media networks available and it is gaining more popularity; soon it would be like Facebook. It has many valuable features and tools for everyone, especially for teachers and students, some of these are: Hangouts, Circles and Sparks. This web tool is very useful when we need to communicate with others via video. For us as teachers, it would allow the possibility to have virtual classes or conferences, in one-to-one or group conversations (about 10 people per call). Also, it allows having extra explanations for students who need it or if they want to ask something to the teacher; moreover it would be used when a teacher cannot attend classes, in this case the teacher can use Google Hangouts to record the video and send it to the students or have a virtual class with the students. Furthermore, it enhances the attractiveness of the class, and therefore, the motivation of students because they can have a different classroom environment where they can also share with others online being in a different place. For me as a future teacher I will use this tool as an extra help to give tutor hours or to clarify doubts to those students who need it; to give virtual classes and if I have the opportunity, I would like to use it to connect students with experts or other classes (that share similar topics to exchange points of view) across the world, providing them with connected learning experiences. Obviously, we always have to take into consideration the population we are teaching, because we cannot implement this kind of technology with all the students, only with the ones that have the possibilities for it (geographical and economical conditions). By going to these following websites http://www.wikihow.com/Use-Google%2B-Hangouts-for-Teaching & http://edtechreview.in/trends-insights/insights/815-how-to-use-hangouts-in-the-classroom you can clarify all your doubts about Google Hangouts and also have a wider knowledge about it advantages and usefulness to use in education.

  5. Google hangouts is an excellent way to teach your classes on line. It has so many advantages. You can ask your students while they are at home and also you to have video chattings about different topics, they can do a little research about that certain topic and then make a discussion while participating in the video chatting. Another advantage is that if you are sick and cannot go to teach your class that day, you can tell your students to get online and ask you questions in case they have doudts about a topic or even teach the entire class in certain spaces with a number of students that you consider appropriate. You only need a computer and good access of internet, and this also could be a negative aspect, internet must be fast in order to have a clear video chatting. 7. The google hangout can be a great tool when teaching, mostly for adults because they have the cognitive abilities and emotional intelligence to understand the purpose of it and apply it in good way. However, If I related to our reality I mean, teaching children and adolescents I think is more challenging since they are been influence by a high amount of information on the web and they visualize chatting as an entertainment activity and not much as an academic task. I would like to try in my future teaching with a small group in order to test the effectiveness and to compare that with the possible drawbacks. For example, I will try to ask ninth graders to connect on a hangout in order to discuss what are some advantages of using technology to develop one of the units: Technology in Our Daily Life.
In this link you can find important recommendations about the use of hangouts and other tools in the class specifically for online lessons.

One of the technological tools that allow educators to complement and support their classes is Google Hangout. Through the use of this implement teachers can propose a topic in order to promote interaction among learners and motivate them to use technology for sharing ideas and critical points of view about a topic by using a chat or video calls, among other advantages and tools that this app has for teaching purposes. Also, this tool allows students and teachers interact outside the classroom, which could be meaningful in the teaching-learning process. 9. Even though I didn’t post my forum comment the last Friday, I’m going to do it now. Google Hangouts is an amazing tool from which teachers can benefit a lot. This software can be used to teach an online class with up to ten people at the same time in the same video chat. Also, it gives teachers the possibility to clarify doubts or questions that students have, from the comfort of their home. In the future i would like to use this tool to help with my classes. The following video link shows us the basic utilities that the App for smartphones has: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n78llNrEKxs
